Day 81

Hello All,

• The Good News: JaNell’s wound is healing and looks good, according to nurse, Heather. She had not seen the wound in the last five days, and was surprised how well it is healing. The white blood cell count (14.4) is lower than yesterday. Blood sugar (129) is good. Temperature (97.8) good. The fistula is putting out only a small amount of fluid.

• The Not So Good News: JaNell experienced several bouts of nausea and dry heaves. A doctor prescribed Compazine for nausea. She is weaker and hasn’t felt like walking or exercising.

Thank you for your concern and prayers,

terry

Day 82

Hello All,

• Today was another good day, with Dr. Odero discontinuing one of JaNell’s medications, Daptomycin. White blood cell count was 13.5. The lowest she has ever had is 12.4.

• She walked 200 feet with the help of a walker and one physical therapist. She also worked with elastic bands to strengthen muscles.

• She had tomato soup for lunch. A couple sips of chicken soup caused the only bout with nausea.

• Wound looks good – fistula out-put small amount – JP drain out-put small amount.

• Recreation: we attempted getting interested in a jigsaw puzzle. Unsuccessful.

Today was a good day,

terry

SweetBabyJames,

I called Sandra Ogrosky today while we were at Mayo clinic at Scottsdale.
She is retiring and Friday is her last day at work. They called our name
for the appointment, so we didn't get to talk long.

Terry,
I am attaching some very bad pictures (unlike your fantastic ones) taken when JaNell and I and our two buddies were running around and making trouble at Bula!
Thought she might get a kick out of them.
Give her my love and tell her we are continuing to pray for complete healing and soon!
Sandra W.
PS: I look for your message every day to keep up with JaNell's progress. Thank you so much for sending them!

Yes, JaNell doesn't have a very interested look on her face. I don't know if this is something to share with JaNell, but there were three death notices today of people she knows - Darl Miller, Harlo Longmore, and Faye Mahres. FYI

Day 83

Hello All,

• JaNell had a good day, with no significant change from yesterday. She did not go for a walk today, but worked out with the occupational therapist, using ankle weights and elastic bands.

• She had an appointment today with Kelly K. Curtis, M.D. at Mayo clinic, Scottsdale. He recommends checking JaNell’s medical condition, during the first year after release, by conducting a CT scan every three months.

• Dr. Curtis’s recommendation for preventing cancer: Eat a proper diet and exercise. Eat vegetables and avoid fats. Walk one half hour daily. (When we told the nurses back at Kindred hospital his advice, they laughed and said, “Do you have to go to a doctor to find that out?”)

• Proof that JaNell is improving: she asked me to bring her curling iron and makeup to the hospital tomorrow.

Story developing,

terry

Day 84

Hello All,

• JaNell had a good day, with no significant change from yesterday. She worked with two physical therapist who helped her with walking, exercising with elastic bands and ankle weights.

* Some good news: the intravenous injection of the antibiotics Fluconazole/ dihycon and Zosyn will be discontinued tomorrow. JaNell is on a liquid diet, but still receives intravenous TPN. Her food tray consists of soup, ice cream, milk, iced tea and fruit juice. She generally eats about half of the soup, and normally doesn’t touch the other items.

* Some other news: nausea still continues to be a problem. Shortness of breath and dizziness are two factors, which contribute her limited mobility.

• March 6th is her next appointment with her surgeon, Dr. Wasif.

• My mission today: a run to Fry’s for Nilla wafers (sorry can’t eat these yet) and Delaware Punch (couldn’t find this.)

Thank you for your prayers and concern,

terry

Day 85

Hello All,

• Another good day – no significant change form yesterday. JaNell worked with the physical therapist using elastic bands and weights.

• JaNell was taken off a liquid diet and placed on a soft diet today.

• Her treatment with antibiotics has been extended. She received the antibiotic Fluconazole.

• Special visitor: Shane, the husband of JaNell’s niece, Jennifer, came by for a visit.
He was in town on business, but stayed over for the specific purpose of visiting JaNell.
A real spirit-lifting event… Thank you Shane!

• JaNell is rekindling an interest in her Kindle Fire.

Thank you for your prayers and support,

terry

Day 86

Hello All,

• Another good day: JaNell had another good day without nausea or throwing up. She worked out with a physical therapist, using elastic bands and stationary bike.

• Nothing Hangin’: TPN and antibiotics have been discontinued. She still has a PICC line and one JP drain tube.

• Car transfer: a physical therapist accompanied us to the parking lot, where JaNell practiced getting in and out of a car. No problem.

• Phone call: JaNell received a phone call from a special great nephew, Brandon, who has just completed Marine boot camp training.

A good day – Thank you for your prayers,

terry
