Subject: JaNell Surgery Report 2012.01.22 Day 46 Hello All, • JaNell had two incidents of sickness in an otherwise good day. One time this afternoon when she was eating a Popsicle, and another time this evening when she was taking pills. • She walked halfway around the pod and exercise with weights. • Her appetite was good today, she ate approximately half of the food on her tray. Her favorite today: apple pie and ice cream. • Her chest x-ray was good and showed no lung problems. • A wheelchair ride gave her some time outside of her room. Time was spent in the main lobby and outside of the building. Thank you for your prayers, terry |
Subject: JaNell Surgery Report 2012.01.23 Day 47 Hello All, • JaNell had a good day today. This morning, she walked, fast, around the pod two times, with only one stop to rest. • She drank coffee and a coke early this morning. She hardly ever drinks cokes, but I think she saw a coke advertisement on TV last night that made her want one. • She didn’t like the French toast for breakfast, but she liked the bacon. She said, “ It’s my kinda’ bacon, almost burned.” • JaNell is given Zofran for nausea, before she takes her pills, some times it works, some times it doesn’t. • Her white blood cell count is still high (20.6) A CT Scan is scheduled for 8:00 AM tomorrow. The test is an attempt to determine why the count is “fairly high.” • JaNell wanted a Dr. Pepper this afternoon. I got her one at the cafeteria. She decided not to drink it because of the CT Scan, which was originally scheduled for today. She wants to drink it after the scan, tomorrow. She said, “Have that baby ice cold, when I get out of that test.” Thank you for your prayers and response to these emails, terry |
Subject: JaNell Surgery Report 2012.01.24 Day 48 Hello All, • JaNell had a good day today. Vital signs were good. No nausea. • She worked with the physical therapist, lifting weights, to regain her strength and balance. • Results of the CT Scan indicated there is an area in her abdomen, which is abscessed, and is not being drained by the first JP drain tube. A second JP drain tube was inserted to drain this area. • During the process of inserting the JP drain tube there is the possibility that a blood vessel was damaged, which has resulted in bleeding. A hemoglobin test is being run to determine how much blood has been lost. • Yeah: We have a refrigerator, a clean room, I’ve got jammies (scrubs,) a new chair/bed, clean bed linins. Thank you charge nurses Irene.

Day 49 Hello All, • JaNell’s condition is much the same as yesterday’s. She rested most of the day without doing any physical therapy. She was tired today as the result of last nights 2 AM activity. To stop the bleeding, in the area of the new JP drain, Dr. Garvey applied three stitches. • She received pain medication to treat a level 6 pain in her abdomen, late this evening. • JaNell had a minimum amount of problems with nausea today and enjoyed working crossword puzzles. Her spirit and countenance was good today, terry |
Day 50 Hello All, • Today was a good day for JaNell, she walked (fast) around the pod two times (300 ft.) with only one pit stop. • Physical therapy was limited today, because JaNell was feeling dizzy during her work out. • Sue came by for a visit today. She gave JaNell a foot and leg massage. Swelling is going down. • White blood cell count was 5 points lower today (18) • Kelly and Krystal are coming to Phoenix tomorrow. |
Subject: JaNell Surgery Report 2012.01.27 Day 51 Hello All, • JaNell had a good day of sleeping and exercising. She walked around the pod one time. She stopped four times during the trip around the pod and did leg exercises. • Good News: There is talk by two doctors that she will be released from the hospital early next week. • Bad News: The social worker informed us, at 5:30 today; that the facility we wanted JaNell to go to for rehab doesn’t have any vacancies. There are several other facilities in the area to choose from. • JaNell had a problem with nausea late this evening. • Kelly and Krystal arrived at 8:30 PM Thank you for your prayers, terry |
Day 52 Hello All, • JaNell had another good day. She walked around the pod two times with just minor pauses to rest. She worked out with weights under the supervision of the physical therapist. • Hopefully, she will be released from the hospital on Monday. • There was no significant change in her condition today. • When Krystal and I left the hospital tonight she was drinking a Dr. Pepper float. • Thank you prayer warriors. More later, terry

Subject: JaNell Surgery Report 2012.01.29 Day 53 Hello All, • There has been no significant change from yesterday, in JaNell’s condition. Her vital signs are good and she is resting well. She hasn’t experienced any nausea today. We think she will be discharged tomorrow. Hopefully, we will find a rehab center nearby. • Kelly and Krystal returned to Las Cruces this morning. Thank you for your concern and prayers, terry |
Subject: JaNell Surgery Report 2012.01.30 Day 54 Hello All, • Good news: JaNell has a new residence, Kindred Hospital at Scottsdale. Hopefully, she will only have to be there for two weeks, for rehabilitation. We checked out of Mayo at 6:30 PM today. Kindred is about ten miles from Mayo, and the Hope Village. Praise God, terry Going-away party: JaNell & her surgeon, Dr. Wasif. |
Subject: JaNell Surgery Report 2012.01.31 Day 55 Hello All, • JaNell had a good today, no nausea or throwing up. Her room has windows that let in a lot of light, which I think raises her spirits. She really likes this new location, and thinks this is where she is suppose to be. A doctor is scheduled to evaluate her tomorrow, and prescribe a rehab program. • Sue came by to visit this afternoon, and was drafted to make a Chick-fil-A run. JaNell developed a hankering for some Chick-fil-A lemon aid. Sue gave JaNell’s swollen ankles and feet a massage. • Hopefully, tomorrow a plan will be developed to get JaNell on the road to recovery. More Later, terry |
Subject: Fwd: Is this a high dollar medication ($300 a pop)? An operator of a skilled nursing rehab facility told me that medicare would not reimburse them for this expenisve med. She said, "you will have to go to a hospital to recerive this med." This is why we selected the location that we did. terry Begin forwarded message: From: JaLisa <jalisa>

Day 56 • Today: another routine hospital day, with one speed bump, caused by a sip of water this evening. Hospital life might remind a person of military life; you play by their rules and time line. End of story. • Dr Yee came by today and evaluated JaNell, and gave his opinion on the structure of a rehab program. Later this evening, Vince, an occupational therapist came and performed an evaluation. Part of his evaluation was psychological in nature. He ask her routine questions, such as, what is today’s date. In an attempt to be humorous, he asks her who was going to win the election. She said, “Don’t get me started.” • JaNell is scheduled for two sessions tomorrow. • She took the initiative this morning to work out, on her own, with an elastic band that was provided by Mayo. We’ll see what tomorrow brings, terry |
