Day 27

Hello All,

2012.01.03 – 6:30 am – Dr. Dossick – white blood cells are a little high (16%) below 10% is good.

2012.01.03 – 6:45 am – Dr. Frasier – White blood cells are better today than yesterday. The body can absorb air pockets in abdomen. It is not always necessary to insert a tube to remove them. Taking three antibiotics for infection. Two of the medications are for bacterial infection and one is for bacterial and fungal infections.

2012.01.03 – 7:00 am - Dr. Danni Hakinson – Pain six - JaNell says she is over whelmed; it’s hard to say if I’m getting better. Ordered chest x-ray (portable machine brought to room). She is too weak and dizzy to get up to use the bathroom. Breathing labored – the nurse requested respiratory treatment.

Nurse Monique has a cold and is wearing a mask over her face. Sniff Sniff Sniff. JaNell’s ankles are definitely swollen. Pain level three. Blood Pressure 170/74.

2012.01.03 – 9:00 am - Dr. Wasif - Good news the white blood cell count is down significantly, which is an important marker. The CT scan shows that there is an inflamed section of the intestine, and a small perforation, which is leaking air. Surgery may be required to repair the perforation. The perforation is not at the point where the bowel was reconnected; it may be the result of the chemo treatment. There is a 50 -50 chance that it will heal itself. Another operation now, so soon after the first operation, is bad timing, because surgery could do more damage than good. Laparoscopic surgery is not an option. Since there is no fever and temperature is normal, they will wait two days to determine if the white blood cell count keeps decreasing.

Nurse Monique gone.

Nurse Jennifer: replacing potassium.

2012.01.03 – 4:30 – Dr. Wasif – Temperature is 101. Will not wait any longer for surgery. JaNell will be in surgery this after noon as soon as preparations can be made. Kelly is on her way and will be here at 8:45.

Please continue to pray for miraculous healing,

terry

Hello All,

JaNell is out of surgery. The problem was found and corrected. There was a small hole in her intestine, which might have been caused by the chemo treatment. We will be able to see her in about two hours. Kelly is in Phoenix and on her way to the hospital.

Thank you for your concern and prayers.

Praise God,

terry

Day 28

Hello All,

JaNell rested today in the Intermediate Care Unit. She is pretty much under the total influence of her pain medication, which makes her sleepy. She has an oxygen mask over her mouth and nose, a GN tube. Ice chip are about all she is interested in today, which are only available to her on a limited basis. I don’t think her pain clicker got much use today. They have put the tube back in her side again, to drain fluid from her abdominal cavity.

Her doctor said that recovery would be more difficult this time, because she hadn’t even recovered from the first operation. Weakness, from just laying in bed, may be getting to be a problem since she has been in the hospital for 28 days now. He recommended a stay at a rehabatation facility here before traveling home to Las Cruces.

All of this sounds pretty bleak, but we have renewed faith that this second operation will put her on a path of recovery. Her blood pressure and temperature was good, but her white blood cell count is higher today. Blood test samples are taken at 4:00 am every day.

Thank you for your continued support and response to these emails,

terry

Day 29

Hello All,

JaNell Surgery Report 2011.01.05 @ 11:30 am
JaNell rested well last night; vitals were good. She was asking for ice chips when we arrived this morning. The white blood cell count is the same as yesterday, 21. The doctor is pleased with her progress.
The doctor ordered a wound dressing change and said, “clean around every staple.” The nurses ask us to leave, because they said she is not going to like this. Yesterday, we were standing outside her door when they turned her; the nurses were reminded of her assertiveness, when she protested loudly.
Robert is coming Friday. Kelly is on the phone trying to wrangle a good hotel rate. I admire her spunk; she is still working on it.
JaNell Surgery Report 2011.01.05 @ 10:45 pm
JaNell has had a good day. Her temperature and blood pressure are good. Her medications are wearing off and she is alert and talking now. She has had treatments with Lasix to help reduce excess fluid. Her breathing is good. Her breathing mask has been replaced with a more comfortable cannula. She sat on the side of the bed, stood up, and “danced” with the physical therapist. JaNell tried to con the Doctor out of a more frequent serving of ice chips (Which has been her only pleasure the past 29 days).
She dreamed today about: her high school friend, Doris McCabe, that she got a hat, Rebecca was here, she put her to bed and covered her up. Her GN tubes made a whistling sound which sounded like the North wind blowing.

We appreciate your concern and prayers,

terry

Hi, Terry, JaNell, Kelly & Robert,
This report sounds much better! The "Dancing" w/the nurse must have been a hoot!
Keep encouraging her to use that breathing machine to get that oxygen flowing deep into her lungs and all her cells.
How's the orange juicer "spout" working?
See you soon...Saturday around 11 am...do you think I'll be able to see JaNell by then?
With loving prayers,
Sue

Sounds good, they did a 4-D CAT Scan on me today and found what they were looking for. The Doctor gave me orders not to work again until we had this issue resolved. He has not given me a surgery date, but they did find a nodule on one of my Parathyroid Glands. Things are looking up! Bobby
