Adron & George Turner The Campers

When Adron and his brother, George, moved to Ramon to homestead, and before they built their homesteader shacks, they camped-out in a cave.

The cave, which is located just North of where Adron eventually built his house, on Loco Draw, is in the side of a bluff. It is probably an old deserted mine shaft. In later years, some one put a fence up to keep livestock from going in. The kids were told not to go in because the cave had a dangerous vertical shaft located at the end of its horizontal tunnel.

While they were camping there an owl kept persistently roosting at night on a post near the entrance to the cave. It’s constant hooting kept Adron and George awake.

 George developed a plan…

One night he snuck out and crept up on the owl, grabbed it by the legs, and stabbed it with his knife.

This is how the stuffed owl landed on the perch on my bedroom wall at the Ramon ranch.

(Story told to Adron’s son-in-law, Benny Lee Taylor
