Adrienne and Jean West Side of House - The window on the right is to the "front room," which was Adron and Johnie's bedroom. There was a wood stove and firewood box in the corner of the front room. The house was made up of four "homesteader shacks," which had floors of different heights, that made it necessary to step up or down when going from one room to another. When it rained leaks appeared between the different rooms, and because there was no insulation, the bedrooms were very cold in the winter. It sure felt good when mom placed an warm iron, which she had warmed up on the wood stove and wrapped in news papers,  in the cold bed at our feet. But, luckily, there was plenty of firewood available from "the breaks" for heating. And, more important, our folks were kind and had warm loving hearts. We were lucky kids!
